A costly domain for a worthy cause<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we discovered that the domain name united.earth<\/strong> was available, we knew it was the perfect match for our cause, as described in The name United Earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, securing this domain came at a high cost, reflecting the importance and value we place on this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We couldn\u2019t afford the approximate $17,000 +VAT outright. Instead, we entered into a licence agreement for $19,362 +VAT (approximately NOK 250,000), with monthly instalments of $461+VAT (approximately NOK 6,000). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of November 2024, we had paid 13 instalments totalling $5993 (approximately NOK 65,000). The license was then transferred to GoDaddy due to their acquisition of Dan.com, and as of March 2026, we have paid 16 instalments there (so 29 in total), with 13 remaining.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 2026, our plan with GoDaddy was terminated due to a miscommunication, and the domain was released back to the owner, Top Domains<\/a>, who was kind enough to give us a pause on payments while still allowing us to use the domain. This gave us time to finish the website, start our funding campaigns, and, hopefully, quickly complete the lease-to-own plan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The first facilitator made this agreement before any judicial entity was formally established. Therefore, the process of securing the domain must follow this sequence:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The UE Association fund the whole purchase plus expenses (NOK 300,000 minus fees = ~285,000).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. These funds are transferred to the facilitator as payment in advance for the domain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The facilitator keeps ~165,000 as a refund for his private payments thus far, spends the rest to pay down the lease-to-own licence, and becomes the owner of the domain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. The facilitator creates the invoice and transfers ownership to the United Earth Association<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. When the United Earth Foundation<\/a> is established, the UE Association transfers ownership to it as part of its role as the formal founder of the foundation.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
